Video Marketing Trends to Follow in 2019

The year 2018 was the year video marketing really took off. Now everyone is either doing video marketing, or considering getting into it and talking about how they can get started. Whether you’re new to video marketing or you’ve been doing it for a while, here’s what you need to know about the industry for 2019:

Smartphone Cameras

The beauty of smartphone cameras is they make video marketing so easy. If paying a video marketing professional is a little outside your budget right now, you can still get decent results just by pulling out your smartphone and shooting a quick video. Smartphone cameras have evolved from tiny, pixelated little pictures to high-quality technology that rivals Hollywood cameras, and viewers now expect to see online videos that were made using smartphone cameras. Videos and Tutorials

YouTube was the first to enter the tutorial marketplace years ago, and not only are they still going strong, but video tutorials and webinars have continued to grow, both on YouTube and on other platforms. In fact, learning is one of the top three reasons people go on YouTube, and educational videos outperform those adorable kittens by 400%! So, if you’re not already on YouTube, you should remedy that right away, because it’s one of the best ways to get in front of new customers.

Live Videos

Back in 2011, YouTube introduced live videos, but the trend really started to take off when Facebook introduced it in 2016. It’s a trend that has continued to grow throughout 2018 and we expect we’ll see it continue to grow in 2019 and beyond. Facebook has been heavily promoting their live videos and using their algorithm to make live videos more visible than other content, and that trend is also expected to continue.

Mobile Viewing

People watching videos on their smartphones and tablets is another trend that took off as soon as mobile devices were capable of playing them and has only continued to grow. One study found that mobile users spend twice as much time viewing content compared to desktop users. This means, if your videos aren’t already mobile friendly, it’s time to start making them mobile friendly.

Engagement Matters

Engagement has always mattered when it comes to any form of online marketing, which is why videos are so important. They tend to get more engagement than posts without images or videos, and more engagement means higher rankings for your video (engagement is a signal that the content is valuable, which prompts the algorithms to rank it higher). So the goal is to make videos that are engaging so people will respond to them, thereby making it more likely that the video will be seen by other viewers.

Live videos are great for this. You can just hop online with your camera for 10-15 minutes and anyone who wants to join in on the conversation can chat with you directly in real time. It’s a great opportunity for viewers to feel connected to you and for you to get an idea of their wants and needs, so if you haven’t started taking advantage of live videos, it’s definitely something to consider for 2019.
